I'm still here, baby's still on the inside. Time's ticking, though, and I feel like a mama bird getting her nest all ready for the eggs to hatch. Yesterday we got a load of baby clothes handed down from our little friend Mercer, and as I sat there folding tiny t-shirts it started to become more real that soon we'd have a little person joining us who'd need some things to wear.
But the point of this email is to share a little musing on fatherhood, sent to me by one of my dearest friends from college, who goes by the single-name Tomko (like Cher, only with less purse-y lips). He has a young daughter, and when we told him we were pregnant, he sent the following missive:
Fatherhood is quite an experience. It's a little like remembering your gym shorts but forgetting your underwear. It brings you closer to the world with an exhilarating freshness, but it also makes you feel newly vulnerable.
Brilliantly stated.
If that's what fatherhood feels like then I've been practicing for years. I'm practicing right now.
